The stage strings together a long climb out of Vizzavona, with nearly 940 m of ascent over a moderate distance — enough to earn the day a 'Sustained' rating. The terrain grows steeper again with altitude, hinting at the ridgelines that define the southern GR20. It's as much a physical turning point as a geographical one: after the relative respite of Vizzavona, the body has to get back into gear on a demanding profile.
Many hikers use Vizzavona to restock fully before setting off: it's the best midpoint resupply on the whole trail before the more isolated stages of the south.
Water & resupply. You set off from Vizzavona with enough water, the village being one of the genuine resupply points on the route. At the Bergeries de Capannelle, at the end of the stage, the U Fugone gîte offers backup supplies (pasta, tinned food, Corsican products) — useful, but to be treated as a top-up, not a base.
