The stage alternates climbs and descents over a long, technical profile typical of the southern GR20. It leads to the Prati refuge, set on the ridgeline near the Bocca d'Oru: an exposed position for wind and storms, where you watch the weather closely before committing, as on any ridge along the route. The Prati refuge was in fact rebuilt after a lightning-caused fire, a concrete reminder of how exposed the site is.
The Prati refuge has water, showers and a small grocery store on site — enough to catch your breath before the run of ridges toward Usciolu the next day.
Water & resupply. No genuine resupply point on this stage: between E Capannelle and Prati, you're back to the random backup stock of the Park's refuges, best treated as a bonus. Better to set off with enough food and ask the warden each morning about the state of the springs before committing to the day.
